UHUD Trial

Trial design

  • Single arm, prospective trial

  • 50 consecutive patients undergoing diagnostic invasive catheterization at the University of Minnesota.

  • Either diagnostic coronary angiography or right heart catheterization.

  • Inclusion criteria

    • >18 years of age

  • Exclusion criteria

    • Planned interventional procedure

    • Endomyocardial biopsy

    • Emergent procedure

  • Consent obtained for both patient and physician.

Methods

  • Vascular access either right or left internal jugular for right heart catheterization or right or left radial / ulnar for coronary angiography.

  • AR headset used as a primary monitor for guiding the procedure with standard display immediately available in case of headset failure.

No Complications

It is the only mixed reality system that has been shown to be safe and feasible in a clinical trial. None of the fifty patients had any peri-procedure or post-procedure complications.

Results

Our patented mixed reality system showed reduced procedure times as well as reduced contrast use when compared to standard display guided procedures (p < 0.001).
